The Tudor Black Bay Pro Ref. 79470 is a compact, purpose-built GMT that combines Tudor’s Black Bay design language with the functionality and aesthetic of classic expedition watches. Introduced in 2022, it features a 39mm stainless steel case with a satin-brushed fixed 24-hour steel bezel, domed matte black dial, and Tudor’s signature Snowflake hands. The standout yellow 24-hour hand tracks a second time zone against the engraved bezel, while the date sits at 3 o’clock. Its vintage-inspired design has clear visual ties to early exploration watches such as the Rolex Explorer II Ref. 1655, but Tudor gives the concept its own identity through the Black Bay’s applied luminous markers and domed construction. Inside is Tudor’s Manufacture Calibre MT5652, a COSC-certified automatic GMT movement with 28 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, silicon balance spring, and approximately 70 hours of power reserve. More importantly, the MT5652 provides a true “flyer” GMT function: the local hour hand can be jumped forward or backward independently without stopping the movement or disturbing the minutes and seconds, while the yellow 24-hour hand continues displaying home time.
