Offered is the Rolex Explorer II 16570 Black Dial 'Engraved Rehaut' with 3186 movement - the most collectible version of the classic 40mm Explorer II. This late production example from the final run before Rolex switched to the 42mm 216570 in 2011 combines the best of vintage and modern Rolex. You get the classic 5-digit 40mm case that wears so perfectly on the Oyster bracelet, but fitted with the upgraded Rolex calibre 3186 automatic movement with jumping hour and true GMT function, blue Parachrom hairspring, and the engraved inner rehaut with ROLEXROLEX and serial engraving around the dial - a detail that is hard to find in a 16570 and only seen on the very last Z, M, V and Random serials.
Featuring the iconic black dial with applied markers, date at 3, red 24-hour GMT hand, fixed 24-hour bezel, and 100m water resistance. The 3186 brings improved stability and the same jumping local hour that made the GMT-Master II famous, making it a true travel watch. This is the one collectors hunt for - last of the great 40mm Explorer IIs, with the modern movement upgrade and modern rehaut engraving - the perfect blend of old-school proportions and new-school Rolex tech.

Brand History
Brand History
Rolex was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London, before moving to Geneva in 1919 to be closer to the heart of Swiss watchmaking. From the start, Wilsdorf envisioned a wristwatch that was not only elegant, but also precise and reliable—an ambitious goal at a time when pocket watches dominated. Rolex went on to pioneer key innovations in horology, including the first officially certified chronometer wristwatch, the Oyster case (the world’s first waterproof wristwatch), and the Perpetual rotor—the self-winding mechanism that became the standard for modern automatic watches. These technical breakthroughs laid the foundation for Rolex’s enduring reputation for rugged luxury and mechanical excellence.
Today, Rolex is arguably the most recognized name in watches, with models like the Submariner, Daytona, Datejust, and GMT-Master becoming cultural icons in their own right. Whether tied to deep-sea exploration, motorsport, aviation, or mountain summits, each model reflects the brand’s commitment to performance and precision under extreme conditions. The brand’s status is bolstered by its unmatched consistency in design, rigorous in-house testing, and long-standing associations with exploration, sport, and achievement. For collectors and enthusiasts, Rolex represents more than a timepiece—it’s a benchmark of mechanical reliability, timeless design, and global prestige.
