Details

The 1999 Patek Philippe Gondolo Ref. 5010J is an elegant example of the manufacturer's traditional dress-watch craftsmanship, combining distinctive Art Deco-inspired design with the refined proportions of late-20th-century Swiss watchmaking. Crafted entirely from 18k yellow gold, the rectangular case measures approximately 26mm wide by 33mm long and just 6.6mm thick, giving it an exceptionally slim and sophisticated presence on the wrist. Its elegant case architecture features polished and brushed surfaces, gently curved lugs, and a solid gold caseback secured by four screws. The refined silvered dial features classic numeral detailing, slender hands, and a subsidiary seconds register at 6 o'clock, creating a beautifully balanced design reminiscent of the rectangular wristwatches produced during the 1920s and 1930s. The Gondolo collection itself draws inspiration from Patek Philippe's historic relationship with Gondolo & Labouriau, the prestigious Brazilian retailer that commissioned some of the manufacturer's most distinctive watches during the early 20th century. The Ref. 5010 was produced from approximately 1993 to 2005, offering collectors an increasingly uncommon example of Patek Philippe's traditional rectangular watchmaking.

Inside is Patek Philippe's manually wound Calibre 215 PS, an exceptionally thin manufacture movement featuring 18 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and approximately 44 hours of power reserve. Renowned for its refined construction and traditional finishing, the movement incorporates Patek Philippe's Gyromax balance and beautifully decorated components, including Geneva stripes and circular graining. The Calibre 215 PS reflects the manufacturer's longstanding commitment to classical mechanical watchmaking, preserving the tactile experience of daily winding within an elegant, ultra-slim dress watch. What makes this particular 1999 Gondolo especially desirable is its accompanying Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives, providing valuable factory documentation of the watch's original production details and historical record. Patek Philippe's archival records represent an important resource for collectors, helping establish the history and original configuration of vintage and discontinued references. With its solid 18k yellow gold construction, distinctive rectangular proportions, traditional hand-wound movement, and accompanying factory archival documentation, the Gondolo 5010J offers a beautiful expression of understated Patek Philippe elegance from the final years of the 20th century.
