The Omega Speedmaster Professional Gemini IV 40th Anniversary Ref. 3565.80.00 is one of the most distinctive space-themed limited editions from the pre-Co-Axial Moonwatch era. Released in 2005 and limited to just 2,005 individually numbered pieces, it commemorates the 40th anniversary of NASA’s Gemini IV mission, during which astronaut Edward H. White II became the first American to perform a spacewalk on June 3, 1965—with an Omega Speedmaster strapped to his wrist. The familiar 42mm stainless steel Moonwatch case is transformed by a deep blue dial with contrasting silver-white recessed chronograph registers, creating the coveted “blue panda” configuration. The blue aluminum tachymeter bezel continues the color scheme, while an applied Omega logo, rhodium-plated indexes and hands, Hesalite crystal, and red “1965–2005” inscription distinguish it from the standard Speedmaster Professional. The special caseback features the colorful Gemini IV mission patch, the names “McDivitt” and “White,” a First Space Walk inscription, and the watch’s individual limited-edition number. Omega Watches
Inside is Omega’s manually wound Calibre 1861, the 18-jewel descendant of the movement architecture used in the Speedmaster Professional for decades. Operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour and providing approximately 48 hours of power reserve, it drives central chronograph seconds, a 30-minute counter, 12-hour counter, and running seconds. Omega Watches The Gemini IV edition is particularly compelling because its commemorative story predates the Moon landing: White’s Gemini IV spacewalk represented the first time an Omega was worn outside a spacecraft in the vacuum of space. With only 2,005 examples produced, its striking blue-and-silver dial, traditional Hesalite Moonwatch construction, Calibre 1861, and direct tribute to one of the defining moments in Omega’s spaceflight history, the 3565.80 has become one of the standout limited-edition Speedmasters of the 2000s.
